Robert L. Strauss bends over Peace Corps:
Think Again: The Peace Corps
"In the eyes of Americans, no government agency better exemplifies the optimism, can-do spirit, and selfless nature of the United States than the Peace Corps. Unfortunately, it’s never lived up to its purpose or principles."

Some good points by fellow Kenya RPCV Scott Alexander, who spotted this article:
Being a teacher in Mugaa kinda sucked. There is a reason the school didnt have teachers: it was remote and [former president/dictator Daniel Arap] Moi didnt pay enough. The teachers all owned kiosks in town or in a neighboring village to make ends meet, and hence were not in class.
I guess for me it comes down to a couple of things:
1) I was too young and too american to do much good for my students.
2) My presence there gave support to Moi's regime, albeit small and indirect.
Now, you could argue that my PC experience has made me better at my
job at the African Development Foundation, though I am not so sure. But I am convinced the only development model that has the potential to work is assisting small businesses. Hence I am happy where I am, but we could use a few more PCVs in the office....
